There are a myriad of different ways you can make money through extra jobs now, whether it’s driving an uber, cycling for Deliveroo, freelancing on Upwork, the list goes on.
But the problem with these is that you only get back what you put in, and it’s not relevant to what you’re worth.
Upwork is the worst for it, where people are bidding lower and lower trying to win the job. And we can’t win when we’re up against people from countries where the cost of living is so much lower than our own.
And the likes of Uber and Deliveroo take up a lot of time and don’t come out much above minimum wage if they do at all, and you’re definitely worth more than that.
Now if you need the money, really need it, to pay bills and put food on the table then they’re brilliant because the barrier to entry is so low and you can pick up work as you need it.
But if you earn enough money then put your time and energy into building an asset, something you have created and that you own and that you can use to make money.
You can earn money much more in line with what you’re time is worth and you can do it following something you love.
You can learn to create an online business that generates a passive income, you can start a blog and build a following, spend your time growing an Instagram account.
An Instagram account with 10,000 followers all rallied around a niche is very valuable, because you have access to 10,000 people who like the work you do, few other people have that level of access and you can use it to make money, you can give companies small access to it in exchange for money through sponsored posts or even sell t-shirts, create e-books, the list is endless you just need the imagination to do it.
It’s something of value that you’ve created and that you can leverage into work and money. You own it, and depending on the type of business you can sell it.
It’s the more challenging route because you’re up against the unknown, if you do a £10 job on Upwork you’ll get £10 (minus the fee) and if you build an asset you don’t know exactly what will happen.
But I can tell you it is very exciting finding out.
